Similar to HTTP, which you can read about here, HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. HTTPS is a secure version of HTTP, which as explained on the HTTP page is the protocol on the World Wide Web that sends requests from your browser. The difference between the two is that all data sent between your browser (your request) and the website (the response) is encrypted – making sure the information you submit is secure. It is often used for online shopping or banking. You can usually tell when a web page is secure based on the lock icon at the beginning of the address bar.
